1. After weeks of barely having enough time to watch TV, Katy and I finished re-watching Veronica Mars Season 2 in record time. 500 subplots, 498 subplots solved in final episode.
2. Lots of friends have new blogs:
Todd - Your Song Has Filled My Head
Clayton - My Blog Equals Lame
Tracey - The Green Mama
and others...
3. We put an offer on a house. It's a short sale, but we're hoping to hear back soon with an accepted offer.
4. I worked on a big project at work with a proposal that will affect (effect?) 5 courses that we currently offer. After being approved by the chairs of the Math/Science and English Departments, it also passed through the committee that makes policy changes. I deserve a raise :)
5. I've led worship at church every Sunday since January 11. Next Sunday is the first Sunday so far that I will not be leading worship. However, I will be running sound instead.
6. Katy and I have been attending a class at church the last two months. The class is a DVD series called "Loving on Purpose." It is a premarital course for Bethel Church in Redding, CA. Our church is offering it for everyone - young, old, single, dating, engaged, newlyweds, old farts, divorcees, etc. Danny Silk, the pastor who leads it, is pretty funny and very deep in an incredibly tangible way. He considers his course successful because 40% of the people who take it DON'T get married. I would recommend this for everybody; the principles work for every relationship you could possibly have in your life. In fact, if you want it, I will buy it for you!
7. We start a new School of Revolution (church leadership class) the first Wednesday in April. While we only teach 1-2 times per month, that will keep us busy doing something we love doing.
8. For 7 straight weeks, I broke my D string on my guitar on Sunday mornings (it's better than my other guitar which tends to break G strings). I hadn't broke a string in about 3 weeks at church until I did this morning. I'm smart enough now to have a second guitar plugged in and tuned and ready to go. I look like a rock star as I switch guitars mid-set, sometimes mid-song, especially when playing with our more rocking band. Now, all I need is a roadie who can restring my guitar and hand me my other guitar as needed...
9. We are deciding whether or not to go to camp again this summer near Glacier NP, MT. We have more excuses to go than not go, but some of the reasons not to go could still outweigh the reasons to go. We'll see.
10. We had snow on the ground the first day of Spring even though it had been in the 50's all week. I love Minnesota, unlike 95% of the people who live in Minnesota yet complain about the weather all year round.
11. We played a song today for offering that Katy wrote. I don't think people could even tell that it was an original song - she's getting that good! It's funny ... I'm more of the musician yet God regularly gives her songs. Also, I'm more of the teacher and she's more of the pastor, yet she writes WAY more clearly and eloquently than I can.
12. I think we've gotten in a food rut. Buy food for meals we like. Eat meals we like. Run out of food for meals we like. Buy more food for meals we like. This leads to eating fajitas at least 1-2 times per week. We also got in a good habit of eating vegetables by mixing them into meals (fajitas, pastas, etc.). Now, all of our meals are mixture meals (Asian stirfries, Indian stirfries, fajitas, pastas, etc.). What happened to meals that take more than a wok and a pan?
13. We went to see Everain and Look Alive the other night. Both bands feature Todd Anderson and Paul Schoolmeesters. Everain includes Libbie Anderson (vocals) Todd Anderson (acoustic guitar, vocals), Paul Schoolmeesters (electric guitar, vocals), and, typically, Clayton Lott (djembe). Everain has been working on their first album since Fall and it is coming out this Spring. Here's a sneak peak. Look Alive includes Tim Mader-Brown (electric guitar, vocals), Paul Schoolmeesters (electric guitar, vocals), Todd Anderson (bass guitar), and the amazing Steve Goold (drums). Look Alive has been working on their second album for about 4 years; it too should be out this Spring. On Steve Goold's birthday, all of the bands that he plays in (I think about 6-8) will be playing the Varsity. We may have to go to that. I am still torn on if he is the best drummer I know (sorry Erich). Also impressive, Look Alive not only has one song in 7/8 but two!
